The Copeland Forest is a 4,400 acre Resource Management Area  in Simcoe County, Ontario,  Canada, owned by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests. The size, beauty, and unfettered use of the forest by a wide variety of recreational users inspired an initiative to conserve the natural integrity of the forest and facilitate compatible recreational use.

In October 2015 the Copeland Forest Friends Association formed a Non-Profit Corporation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the MNRF, and began offering memberships. The organization has been structured to ensure that all of the major recreational user groups are represented equally. There are many ways to join us including becoming a member, volunteering, making a donation, and signing up for our newsletter. We look forward to seeing you in the forest!

Copeland Forest Trail Seasonal Closures ReminderCFFA has installed signs that identify trail closure (either seasonal or permanent) as recommended in the 2023 Trail Plan. The seasonal closures include trail sections that tend to be wet and support amphibian species. Use of these trails in the Spring can damage the trail and impact various sensitive species. Double track sections between Posts 4 & 5 and Posts 8 & 43 along with the single-track trail Rusty Mud Bucket are currently closed. In addition to the spring closures, CFFA has permanently closed a few limited sections of trails that pass through sensitive areas which are largely low-lying wet areas. These sections of trail are particularly sensitive in the spring and should not be used. We expect that most forest users who value the ecology of the forest will respect the closures.Copeland Forest is the most ecologically diverse forest in Simcoe County. It is designated as a Provincially Significant Wetland and contains many documented Species at Risk. The low-lying parts of the forest are particularly sensitive. The use of the forest for hiking and riding should be considered as a privilege. In 2023 CFFA released a trail plan that examined the single-track trails that were originally developed without the permission of the landowner (the Ministry of Natural Resources). The Trail Plan was supported by ecological study and makes many recommendations including the closures of some limited sections of trails in the forest (>95% of the trails are unaffected).Finally, we are seeing new short sections of trail emerging in the form of short cuts.
